My car was towed to Rapid Tune because it wouldn’t start. The ignition module apparently (according to Rapid Tune), needed replacing.
I researched this part on the internet to find an approximate cost. Two doors down from Rapid Tune, the part was available, brand new, at a cost of $228.
Yet Rapid Tune quoted me in excess of $500 for that same part! I had to argue with them, I even offered to fetch and buy the part myself and deliver it to them, I wasn’t going to pay that much for an ignition module! I was considering even towing it to an alternative mechanic! Unbelievable! Reluctantly they agreed to the lower priced ignition module.
In total they did $4,500 worth of servicing and repairs to my vehicle over the space of a few months, and it still drove badly. The ignition problem was not rectified. I’d say lots of unnecessary things were done. The problem was not fixed.
I phoned Rapid Tune, explaining that the car was still not running well. Still the same problems it had before, chugging in the axil and the accelerator feeling like it had an air bubble in it. They wanted $80 just to do an assessment! Where’s the after-care to a customer whom has paid $4,500 over a span of a few months, when the car is STILL not running properly? $80 just for a quote?!
So I went back to my previous mechanic. At a mere cost of a few hundred bucks, AMK motors in Mordialloc discovered the problem straight away: the ignition lead set and a group of spark plugs needed replacing. When I drove it today after visiting AMK motors, it drove like a dream. No more air bubbles in the accelerator. No more chugging in the axil.
Rapid Tune cleans your car really nicely when they do a service. I don’t want or need my car cleaned (i keep it clean anyway). I want the mechanics of my car to be good.
To date, 30th November 2022, Rapid Tune have called me 13 times on my telephone wanting to discuss this review. In the first phone-call, which I did answer, I quietly explained that our communication needs to be in writing. I emailed them to confirm this. (I’m not interested in any verbal threats over the telephone; I want communication to be in writing so it’s accountable.). They have not replied to my email but instead have posted their ‘response’, below, which makes out as if I’ve refused to discuss the matter further, which is of course not true. I have emailed them, they have my email address, they can write to me very easily. In fact, they even have my home address (scary), if they want to communicate by post.
I do recommend Rapid Tune if you want your wheels to be sparkly.
